In honor of Women's History Month, Weebly (our web host) has teamed up with Square to showcase a curated selection of women entrepreneurs in the Square SoHo pop up store and we're very excited to announce that Lavender & Slate's handcrafted bracelets will be one of the brands featured !
As a woman owned business this recognition is profound and inspiring. Not only does it allow me to expose my creations outside of the digital world, I get to be apart of a powerful movement that hopefully fuels the dreams of future female owned businesses.
Square SoHo Pop-Up Store, 197 Mullberry Street, New York, NY
Early March, a close friend presented me with the opportunity to collaborate the release of a limited edition bracelet with the goal to raise money and bring awareness to Pancreatic Cancer and I gladly accepted !
The journey along creating this limited collection of bracelets was both rewarding and sadly an eye opener to a deadly disease that takes our loved ones away too soon. "Doing all things out of Love" is one of Lavender & Slate's core philosophies and I am honored to do my part to help spread love & support in the best way I know how, handcrafting beautiful goods.
A total of 50 Purple Lily of the Valley bracelets will be available April 1st - 30st, for $20 each, with $5 from each sale going to the Lustgarten Foundation. If you'd like to learn more about their mission, click here.

One of the key philosophies behind Lavender & Slate is effortless styling. Your personal aesthetic is a reflection of your inner beauty and putting together an outfit should be fun & not a chore ! Think about your favorite outfit ? It probably includes jeans ? Denim is a huge staple in most everyone's wardrobe and guess what, our products are upcycled from old jeans making them very easy to coordinate with your favorite pair. Overall, pairing together denim that is in the same "color family" is always a safe bet. For example, tonal light to dark blue denims go great together, while tonal grey & black denims will always compliment each other. For bolder looks, get creative and pair your jeans with a contrast denim accessory or layer up with multiple bracelets !.
Not sure what style your style is ? Check our our Gift Guide for our top picks to compliment any look !
Not only are our products fool proof to style, but they're also versatile, giving you a guilt-free freedom to wear day after day ! Our Lily of the Valley chokers are a great go-to-accessory to layer with longer and mid length necklaces. Layering multiple necklaces looks great with any neckline and perfect for when you can't choose what to wear and want to wear it all (we've been there). They're also a great statement piece all on their own, when you're going for a more minimal look. However, what I love most about these chokers (aside from being super trendy) is that we've also designed them with mulitple uses in mind (for when chokers stop trending ::gasp::). The adujustbale slide back and ample amount of cord allows them to be styled as headbands, for a casual bohemian look, or as hat band, to freshen up your favorite hat. Double wap them around your wrist if you're feeling adventuous. The options are endless !
We hope this mini style guide helps you choose your next favorite bracelet or choker ! If you already own a Lavender & Slate accessory, feel free to email us photos of your look at lavender.and.slate@gmail or tag us on Instagram @lavender.and.slate. We're always excited to see how our happy customers style our products & would love to share your look with our up-cycling community. Hey Folks !
Welcome back to the adventure behind Lavender & Slate's upcycled products. If you're just joining us, we're exploring the story behind those cute hand stamped brass tags on our bracelets & choker necklaces !
It all started when my dad retired, and I thought, what better way to congratulate pops on 30+ years of hard work in a windowless office at a huge corporation, than to give him a job ! And not just any job, a meticulous, detailed, and redundant job that required long hours in a damp, dark basement, hand stamping the tiniest pieces of brass. It's pretty much an offer you can't refuse and as he would say, "It doesn't get much better than this" :-)
We all love a good old time photo. Check out pops when entered the service (and, let's be real,
some crazy eyes) ! Guess what branch he joined & win a free bracelet !
What I love most about these tags (besides telling my dad what to do) are the unique subtleties that can only be attributed to a hand crafted item. Not only are these tags a beautiful way to identify and brand the L&S product, but they radiate character and a story of a maker enjoying their craft. This story is about two perfectionists coming together to achieve a balance of performance & aesthetic and now I'm deeply honored to pass down this symbol of love & detail that both my dad and I share, to you.
Realizing I could have something special here, I began the process of designing what would be the debut bracelet collection. First, identify the target customer (age, price point). Second, establish the brand image (logo, packing, overall aesthetic, ect..), and lastly, file the proper paperwork to be legit operating business.
Let's just say this "mission" involved lots of coffee and swear words. I mean, sweat...
I had a couple tricks up my sleeve from working in the fashion industry for the past 10 years, but in no way were any of these steps a piece of cake. Initially, I thought I'd breeze through developing the line but creativity can be a rude awakening to a reality full of half finished prototypes, stopped midway by the ever nagging voice in the back of my head saying "it could be better". I felt I had a mission to accomplish. One that was stylish but also eco-friendly. Working in the NYC mass market fashion industry has exposed me to business & design processes that showed no regard for the well being of employees (domestic & overseas) or the environment. Not to say there aren't companies out that that care, there are, but unfortunately the places I've held employment weren't them.
Happily content with addressing these points, I moved on to the next huge task......how do I brand my product ! Stay tuned for the inside scoop behind creating those cute little brass tags you see on all the Lavender & Slate bracelets and chokers !
